West Holt Medical Services Receives CPR Training Units

In presenting the CPR units, which is essential for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training, Talya Shutt, RN, Trauma Coordinator said, “if the right kind of treatment is given within seconds after he or she is stricken, the chances that the life can be saved increases considerably." CPR training teaches a person how to keep the blood circulating while waiting for professional help to arrive. Cardiac arrest remains a substation public health problem and a leading cause of death in many parts of the world.

 2013 Scholarship Winners

Marcus Marcellus, of West Holt High School, April Everett, of West Holt High School and Emily Kaup, of Stuart High School were all awarded the West Holt Memorial Hospital Scholarship for the 20132014 academic year.

Marcus Marcellus plans on attending Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, entering into PreMed and playing football for the University. He hopes to return to a rural setting to practice family medicine one day.

April Everett plans on attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Perusing a degree in the medical field as a physician assistant with possibly specializing in pediatrics. She is also interested in having a career in a small community similar to Atkinson.

Emily Kaup plans to attending Wayne State College and majoring in PrePhysical Therapy and obtaining a Masters degree from an accredited Physical Therapy school.She plans to return to a rural area and work full time in a hospital setting.

The West Holt Memorial Hospital Scholarship fund in designed to encourage students to pursue a career in the medical field and share their education one day in the rural communities.
