WHMS Postpones Nonessential Procedures
ATKINSON, NE — West Holt Medical Services (WHMS) has postponed elective surgeries and nonessential procedures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country are taking similar precautions to conserve critical supplies, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), and to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The decision, which took effect last week, is consistent with guidance from governmental, clinical, and regulatory organizations. WHMS will allow procedures and surgeries for patient’s whose condition is emergent or urgent as determined by their medical provider.
“Postponing surgical procedures in addition to other services has been a difficult decision, as the majority of the hospital’s revenue comes from outpatient-based services. We remain focused on ensuring that we abide by the guidelines set forth by the CDC and our local health department. Our top priority is and will always be to ensure the health and safety of our patients, providers, and community,” shared chief executive officer Ashley J. Rivera.
WHMS continues to work with North Central District Health Department (NCDHD) and other local partners to collaborate on ways to fight the spread of COVID-19 and to carefully prepare its facility and healthcare team to respond should a positive case of COVID-19 present in the community.
