WHMS holds open houses for new Mobile Medical Clinic
ATKINSON, NE — West Holt Medical Services (WHMS) was excited to unveil a new mobile medical clinic to the public the last two Fridays in Atkinson and Chambers with flu shots and free hot dogs. The weather was not ideal for events, but nearly 100 people came through to see the new clinic over the two days.
WHMS was able to purchase this mobile clinic almost entirely with a Community Development Block Grant. This grant would not have been possible without help from the Central Nebraska Economic Development District and the City of Atkinson.
“Our goal for this Mobile Clinic is to help make healthcare accessible for our whole region” said WHMS CEO Jeremy Bauer. “CNEDD as a regional partner made for a perfect match to pursue this grant, and I am incredibly proud to have been able to work with the City of Atkinson to bring something to our town that can have such a widespread impact.”
The mobile medical clinic is a retrofitted RV with full exam room, waiting area, and wheelchair lift. This fall the unit will be used primarily for flu shot clinics and open houses, but starting in the spring it will be a fully integrated part of the West Holt Medical Clinic, with regular dates and appointments available. This availability will begin in Chambers, with more regular locations hopefully to be announced in the coming months.
An official ribbon cutting will be held in the spring when the mobile unit becomes fully open and operational.
