HealthaPalooza Event Draws Crowd
West Holt Medical Services held its 2nd annual HealthaPalooza event on Thursday, July 26 at the Atkinson Community Center drawing approximately 500 people.
The community appreciation event was run by 60 plus volunteers with over 470 free hamburgers and hot dogs served. Inside the community center, 34 of the top healthcare resources in the area set up booths to provide information to attendees.
Other activities included live music by The OutBack Band, free swimming at the city pool, bounce houses and kiddie train rides. Nebraska State Patrol demonstrated seat belt safety with their rollover simulator and Atkinson Fire and Rescue provided tours of their ambulance.
Sponsors of the HealthaPalooza event included: Faith Regional Health Services, The Harry A. Koch Company, Professional Associates, Seim Johnson, Baird Holm Attorneys at Law and Holt County Visitors Committee.
A highlight of the event was the wacky bed races, organized by the West Holt Medical Services Foundation. Teams of five, twenty-four participants in total pushed their racing beds through a parking lot race track for a chance to win a $150 cash prize. The Tri-County Bank was the fastest team, donating their prize money back to the foundation. Good Samaritan Society of Atkinson won the wackiest costume award with their “Rocking to the Oldies” themed attire.
Sponsors of the bed races included: The Dvorak Brother Ranches, Great Western Bank, The Alley, Atkinson Livestock Market, Waddell & Reed, KBRX, Atkinson Family Dental Center, Krotter’s Home Center. $1,400 was raised benefiting the West Holt Medical Services Foundation.
KBRX did a live radio feed, interviewing participants and announcing the event’s activities. Pictures from the HealthaPalooza can be viewed on the West Holt Medical Services’ Facebook page.
