Annual Board Meeting Held, Wolf Recognized for 9 Years of Service
ATKINSON — The annual meeting of the West Holt Memorial Hospital board of directors was held on November 4, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Atkinson Public Library. The meeting was open to the public, corporate members and board of directors.
Marty Dubas of Seim Johnson, LLP presented the annual audit for fiscal year 2019. West Holt Memorial Hospital experienced a decrease of 0.4% in total assets and a 3% drop in operating revenue. However, net assets (equity) grew by 1.7% due to contributions from West Holt Medical Services Foundation and other grants to the hospital.
Total liabilities decreased by 4% and operating expenses were reduced by 1.3%. The hospital’s days of cash on hand was 107 compared to their Nebraska peers at 82 days, indicating the financial security of the hospital. Nearly 85% percent of the hospital’s total revenue came from outpatient services, confirming the need for the hospital’s current outpatient-focused renovation project.
Ashley J. Rivera, CEO, presented the hospital’s 2019 annual report which highlighted significant activities, projects and the impact West Holt Memorial Hospital had throughout the year. The annual report is available here.

In today’s ever-changing healthcare landscape, it is important to do the hard work of positioning WHMS for success today and for the future. This will require innovation, value-based care, and listening to the needs of the our patients and community,” shared Rivera.
Following the corporate board meeting, the board of directors met to elect new board members and officers. Marsha Thurlow was elected onto the 9-member board of directors for a three-year term. She joins Trent Schaaf – President, Bryan Rentschler – First Vice President, John Kramer – Second Vice President, Brendan Borer – Treasurer, Jarrod Hamik – Secretary, Susan Myers, Brett Lieswald, and Lori Olson.
The annual meeting concluded with board president, Trent Schaaf presenting a plaque to former board member, Jack Wolf for his 9 years of service to West Holt Memorial Hospital’s board of directors.
